How we follow in the footsteps of the Buddha - Sunday April 8

Sunday April 8, 14:00 (doors open at 13:30) - Blavatsky House, De Ruijterstraat 74, The Hague

International public lectures

There must have been people much wiser than us. People that have uncovered many of the mysteries of life. Some of these people have left their life lessons for us to follow. Gautama the Buddha was such a human being. His lessons are still inspiring hundreds of millions of people around the globe.

Also the story of his life is full of meaning. Gautama the Buddha shows what is possible for a human being to achieve and thus what is possible for us all. There are many messages hidden behind the story of his life. Messages that can be applied directly in our life, today and tomorrow.

Our spiritual history and future - Sunday March 11

Sunday March 11, 14:00 (doors open at 13:30) - Blavatsky House, De Ruijterstraat 74, The Hague

International public lectures

Who does not want to know what our origin is, where we come from, and what lies ahead?

There are many theories about the history of man, both scientific and theological. But do they reason from the perspective of the Reincarnating Ego? And that is precisely where the key to understanding lies. For example, human culture is much older than today’s scientists estimate: the first civilized cultures were there millions of years ago. We humans - even though our present state is still very imperfect - have already gone through many stages of growth and experience. It is very useful to know more about it.

And then about our future: what kind of possibilities are dormant in our consciousness? What kind of civilization will we build in the future? Are we going to create designer babies? Will future generations become half man-half robot?

This lecture is about the fundamental question, what ‘evolution’ actually is. What is driving it, is that competition or cooperation? Are we evolving ‘each man for himself’, or is the evolution of all beings, from gods to minerals, totally interdependent?

The more we understand from our path of evolution, from the unfolding of the higher possibilities that we carry within us, the better we can interpret and direct our lives now - including the rapid developments in technology.

The spiritual function of art and design - Sunday February 11

Sunday February 11, 14:00 (doors open at 13:30) - Blavatsky House, De Ruijterstraat 74, The Hague

International public lectures

What is the secret of music? Why does a certain type of music move you? Or why do certain structures, sculptures or paintings bring you into a different sphere?

In abstract art, we do not recognise anything of the visible world surrounding us. What is its purpose and what is it the artist is trying to express? Are we able to recognise the universal symbolism in certain works of art? And is it possible for art to perform a spiritual function? Discover the world behind art and design.

Look at art in a different light and join the Theosophy Talk on ‘The spiritual function of art and design’ on Sunday February 11th.

A cosmic view of life - Sunday January 14

Sunday January 14, 14:00 (doors open at 13:30) - Blavatsky House, De Ruijterstraat 74, The Hague

International public lectures

Cosmos, literally ‘order’, is the name given by the ancient Greeks to the universe, in which a certain harmony and order rules. We humans are walking symbols of the cosmos. We are the home for countless interacting - living - building blocks: cells, bacteria, molecules, atoms. With our mind we continuously influence this microcosm - consciously and unconsciously.

If we look at the macrocosm, we are not always aware of the mutual influence that exists between all life being part of it. If we are open to a universal, cosmic view of life, based on the esoteric tradition or Theosophia, we are better able to recognize this interconnectedness.

According to Theosophy, the same cosmic life flows through everything in the cosmos. It is one organic whole in which all life is on its way to become more and more aware of the unity of the cosmos. Compassion is the law that rules the cosmos.

These are no daily thoughts, but in this talk we will show that you can find them in all major religions, and that scientific research aproaches more and more the ancient wisdom or Theosophia.
